Font Fan Introduced by ZHdK
On April 8, 2010, the Zuercher Hochschule der Künste, Zurich, introduces its newest form of printed matter, a Font Fan.
The Font Fan of the Zuercher Hochschule der Kuenste (Zurich Academy of Arts), created in cooperation with the Berufsschule für Gestaltung in Zurich (Professional Institute for Design Zurich) offers more than traditional font fans. It has been organized according to didactic criteria. About 180 typefaces are shown in a new classification, which is based on historical as well as formal criteria. The fan offers the chance to compare the typefaces and to bring them into an historical context at the same time. It has been conceptualized by Richard Frick and Samuel Marty specifically for the use of students and type aficionados who want to learn more about type. The fan contains primarily typefaces, which are available in the OpenType format.
Certainly, this fan has been an eagerly awaited medium for students, designers and all who are interested in typography. Typography as the conduit for the understanding between people and their myriad forms of expression gives especially this fan a central role.
This fan can be ordered from www.schriftenfaecher.ch for CHF 79.00 (exclusive of postage). Photo ZHdK.
